On 24th June 2013 at Phuket Provincial Hall, Mr Tan Ki Jiang from Thai Hotels Association Southern Chapter and representative of the Chinese Consulate in the Thailand met with Phuket Governor – Maitree Intusut to talk about security problems with Chinese travelers who arrive in Phuket.
Mr Tan Ki Jiang said “The Chinese Consulate has found that most of the problems that Chinese tourists encounter are water accidents such as drowning. The main reason for this is that the tourists do not know how to use a scuba masks. Unfortunately there is a lack of communication between the guides and the tourists which results in accidents. To help with the matter, the Chinese Consulate has requested that local media distribute a warning to Chinese tourists in order to reduce the number of accidents.”
The number of Chinese tourists arriving in Thailand this year is expected to reach between 3.5 – 4 million.
