Phuket prepares for 5th Kathu Street Culture Festival

Recently at Kathu City Municipality Office, Phuket Governor – Maitree Intusut joined a press conference to announce the 5th Kathu Street Culture Festival which is to be held from 22nd – 24th July 2013. Khun Maitree was joined at the press conference by Kathu Mayor – Chaianan Sutthukul, Kathu Deputy Mayor – Utapong Jantarattanawong, Kathu Minicipality Officials and a number of local media.

Khun Maitree said “These events are held to preserve local cultures and traditions and to make youths aware of their heritage. They are also held to promote tourism and boost Phuket’s economy. Kathu is an important part of Phuket’s heritage and has featured a wide variety of lifestyles taken from the cultures of India, China, Penang and the West. As a result, Kathu features fascinating architecture, culture and tradition.”

Kathu Deputy Mayor – Utapong Jantarattanawong said “Kathu municipality is a local government organisation whose mission it is to promoting its culture. We realise the importance of conserving the areas traditions and cultures which still remain widespread. We also realise the importance of promoting Kathu for tourism, not only for Thai people but for the whole world. We expect the Kathu Street Culture Festival to attract around 5,000 people which will be made up of tourists, children, local people and people from surrounding provinces.”
