Angsana Laguna Phuket recently joined hands with the Phuket Child Watch Foundation to bring Christmas spirit to the Holland House in the Kathu district, the home of orphans and underprivileged children in Phuket. Angsana Laguna Phuket donated THB 25,600 towards Christmas lunch and wrapped gifts with the help of resort’s guests and associates assisting to spread the Christmas joy to the children.
The Christmas donation came from a combination of the Green Imperative Fund (GIF) by Banyan Tree Group and dinners sold on Christmas Eve at the resort. For every dinner sold, THB 100 was put toward the charity. The Green Imperative Fund (GIF) was originated from the donations made by guests staying at Angsana and Banyan Tree properties around the world. At Banyan Tree properties, every guest is invited to be a supporting partner through a small contribution of US$2 per room per night, under an “opt-out” arrangement. At Angsana properties, the amount is US$1 per room per night. Banyan Tree and Angsana then match the guest contributions, dollar for dollar.
On Christmas day, ninety orphans and underprivileged children at the Holland House in the Kathu district were visited by over twenty guests and associates of Angsana Laguna Phuket. Volunteers were on hand to help treat the excited children to food, drinks, Christmas presents and, most importantly, a loving, cheerful environment. After receiving meals and gifts, the children of the Holland House sing a thank you song which brought tears to contributors. Happiness, warm smiles, and Christmas spirit were seen on young and old faces.
“This is an exceptional experience, especially seeing the gratitude from the kids. We are very thankful the hotel organised such an extraordinary holiday for us.” Ms. Bharti Tailor, one of the guests who joined the charity, said while the joyful tears dripped down her face.
Dr. Deepak Kaura, a Canadian Paediatrics who visited Thailand for the first time said: “My family and I had never been to any resort supplying guests with such an activity. Anyone from the Western world should participate in something like this. Resorts that offer such an experience in a controlled and safe environment distinguish itself from other hotel chains. I would again stay in a hotel that offered such initiative.”
The Christmas initiative is a part of Angsana Laguna Phuket’s commitment to supporting the Phuket community and is aligned with Banyan Tree’s Group Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) philosophy of Empowering People. “At Angsana Laguna Phuket, we believe in giving back to the community in which we operate. We are doing our part in making a step-by-step, but significant impact in the most important, early part of children’s lives by giving them the one thing they rarely or never received: love and care”, said Kamolux Israngkul Na Ayuthaya, Angsana Laguna Phuket’s Public Relations Manager.
