Phuket shaken by Sumatra earthquakeOn 17th July 2013 at 06.41am, Thai Meteological Department reported an earthquake in the sea north of Samatra Island, Indonesia.  The depth of the quake was reported as 29.2 km and 5.7 on the Richter scale. It has been reported that the quake occurred approximately 260 km from Phuket but the shocks could be felt in many parts of Phuket, Phang-Nga and Satul.

Locals have confirmed feeling the shocks especially those who were on the second floors of building. However, no tsunami alert was issued and tourists and locals had no cause to panic and went about their day as normal.

The strongest shocks on Phuket were believed to have been felt in Phuket Town and its surrounding areas including Phuket Rajabhat area, Baan Samkong, Rang Hill and Koh Keaw. A preliminary report states there has been no damage or injuries however people have been advised to check their properties for any signs of damage.
