On 4th February 2014, Phuket Governor – Maitree Intusut together with Phuket Vice Governor – Sommai Preechasil and government staff visited a goats milk farm at Tambol Thepkasattri in Amphur Thalang, and owned by Khun Akara Thitithavorn
This farm is currently home to 40 goats, and at present 6 goats per day can be milked bring Khun Akara a revenue of about 1 million baht per year. Revenue can also be raised from the sale of dairy goats, which varies depending on the breed, from the sale of breeding goats, and from the sale of goat manure.
During the visit Khun Maitree said that there are currently 46 goat farmers in Phuket, with a total of 1,672 goats. 90 percent of the farms are located in the Thalang area of the island.
He also said that Phuket is happy to support and encourage farmers to turn to raising dairy goats. The goat’s milk that comes from the island is from pure-bred goats which produce the best quality in Thailand and is sold throughout the country.
