Phuket holds anti-corruption conferenceOn 19th February 2014 at Metropole Phuket Hotel in Phuket Town, Khun Chairat Khanittabuth – Assistant Secretary of The Office of the National Counter Corruption Commission presided over the opening of a 2–day public hearing to discuss the importance of all sectors helping to eradicate corruption. The event was attend by the general public, mass media, student leaders, community leaders and businesses from Surat Thani, Phang Nga, Krabi, Phuket, Ranong and Chumphon.

Khun Chairat said “The Office of the National Counter Corruption Commission needs to be taking action against government officials who are corrupt, and a process needs to be set up and implemented at local and national level, so that people who are involved in corruption are not accepted and are unable to sustain themselves in a corrupt society. This is in addition to strengthening legal measures to help solve the problem of corruption.”

Activities at the hearing included lectures about the involvement of the general public in anti-corruption campaigns and dialogues about the creation of social sanctions. There were also discussions with the Director’s of provincial offices, and group brainstorming sessions to determine what concrete processes can be set up to help reporting of corrupt officials.
