Phuket holds Press Conference for Heroines Commemoration Festival A press conference on the upcoming Two Heroines Commemoration Festival was held at Rajabhat University on February 27 2014. Hosting the conference was Phuket Governor Maitri Inthusut, with heads of relevant organizations in attendance. These included Soratham Jinda, from PPAO, who acted on behalf of Chief Executive – Paiboon Upattising; Thawichat Intararit from Phuket Cultural Office; Ass. Prof. Dr. Sawit Pongwat – Director of Art and Culture Office at Rajabhat University; Chan Wongsatayanon – Vice Chairman of the Thao Thep Kassatri and Thao Sri Suntorn Foundation. Governor Maitri informed the press that the 2014 Two Heroines Commemoration Festival aims to educate the younger generations about the brave deeds performed by Thao Thepkasattri and Thao Srisunthorn, and promote cultural tourism of Phuket. The Festival also forges collaboration among communities in the area of local development.

In his comment, Mr. Soratham stated the aims of the Festival, as above, and said it would be held at Thalang Chanasuk (Kok Chana Phama) in Thalang, from March 13 – 15. The Festival, featuring a sound and light drama, will highlight the history of Phuket and offer another dimension in cultural tourism.

Prof. Dr. Sawit added to the above comments by saying that the historical drama, featuring invited actors and actresses from many Phuket sectors, both government and private, will recount the story of sacrifice made by the people of Thalang in order to protect the country’s sovereignty.

Highlighting the activities of the Festival was Tawichat Intararit from Phuket Cultural Office, who explained that there would be a mass ordination during March 1 – 15; historical tour of Thalang between March 7 – 9; sports event on Thalang historical route on March 9; memorial rite to the brave ancestors of Thalang on March 12, at Muang Komarapat Temple; wreath laying at the Two Heroines Monument in Thalang on March 13; a grand sound and light historical drama at Thalang Chanasuk Memorial Field on March 13 – 15. The last event also features cultural displays and stalls selling local craft and food.

Chan Wongsatayanon, Vice Chairman of Thao Thep Kassatri and Thao Sri Suntorn Foundation, concluded that the mass ordination in honor of the two heroines and taking place from March 1 – 15, will be hosted by the Foundation.
