On 26th June 2014 at Phuket International Airport in Amphur Thalang, Phuket Airport Deputy Managing Director – Kanpat Mangkalasiri presided over the training exercise for the “Tsunami Emergency Escape Plan 2014. The event was participated by Phuket Airport staff, Phuket Immigration officers, Tourist Police officers, Airline businesses, Phuket Airport store operators, students from Thalang Technical College, Public Health Officials, doctors, nurses and medical rescue teams.
The training is intended to ensure the government airline company, state enterprises and businesses within Phuket International Airport are able to work together accurately and realistically as if they were in a real situation. It is also imperative that the managers of staff of all relevant agencies in Phuket Airport’s emergency plan communicate the details of all new plans to ensure operational and emergency plans are known. By holding such exercises, it will build the confidence of foreign tourists, employees and the public.
According to data, if the situation ever arose when there was an earthquake in the Andaman Sea in the area of the Nicobar Islands, located 460 kilometers away from Phuket International Airport, and it the center was approximated at 9.0 on the richter scale, vibration would be felt all over Phuket and tsunami waves would likely occur along the Andaman coast within 40 minutes. Therefore, it would be essential those living close and nearby to the airport are prepared should ever an occurrence happen.
