Phuketindex Weekly News Round-UpIn the first of a series of three warm-up games ahead of the 2014 Asian games, on Sunday 31st August2014 the Thailand U23 National Football Team took on Myanmar at Phuket’s Surakul Stadium. Thailand won the game 8 – 1.

On Monday 1st September 2014, as part of the National Council for Peace and Order’s (NCPO) mission to clean up Phuket’s image as a tourist destination, a meter taxi project was at Phuket International Airport.

On Monday September 1st 2014 at the Royal Phuket City Hotel, Phuket opened the 11th ASEAN Community Roadshow. The two-day forum was launched by the Department of ASEAN of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and focused on “Phuket Tourism and AEC”.

On 2nd September 2014, it was announced that that Phuket was putting in place 5 surveillance, prevention and control measures to help prevent an outbreak of the Ebola virus on the island. A special unit has already been set up at Vachira Phuket Hospital to accommodate patients suspected on being infected with the virus.

Certificates were recently awarded to participating lifeguards who successfully completed the latest Volunteer Lifeguard Training Course at the closing of the program held at the Naiyang Beach Resort Hotel.

A ceremony to send off Hajj pilgrims to Mecca, Saudi Arabia was held at the Hajj Facilitation Center at the Sirinat National Park on Wednesday September 3rd 2014. There were a total of 141 pilgrims who hail from Phuket, Krabi, and Ranong who took part in the ceremony.

In the second of a series of three warm-up games ahead of the 2014 Asian games, on Wednesday 3rd September 2014, the Thailand U23 National Football Team took on Phuket FC at Phuket’s Surakul Stadium. Thailand won the game 3 – 1.

On Thursday 4th September 2014, a survey carried out by website www.hotels.com revealed that Phuket is the top choice for Chinese tourists travelling to celebrate the Chinese Moon Festival, which takes place from September 6th – 8th 2014.
